Biography

Tijl Stynen (1983) began his musical studies at the piano at the music academy of Turnhout (BE). After his engineering studies at the Catholic University of Leuven, he obtained his degree in music theory at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. When he was working at the foot of the Sint-Gummarustoren in Lier in 2015, the sounds of the tower there aroused his interest in the carillon. That same year, he enrolled at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen, where he graduated with great distinction in 2022. In recent years, Tijl has already performed on the carillon in various Flemish and Dutch cities. With great passion, he hopes to continue to pursue this hobby, which has slightly gotten out of hand, in addition to his work as a teacher and researcher at the University of Antwerp. In the summer of 2024, Tijl presented a carillon program with American music, as a reminder of a tour of the United States that he made in 2022-2023. In 2025, a program will follow with the theme "Fairy tales and legends".
